Bike Thefts

From the Public Safety Committee

Update:

Capt. Allison has assigned a new Community Resource Officer (CRO) to our beat. Officer Mike Ransom has opened an investigation into the theft of bikes in our community.  Santa Fe residents are working with Officer Ranson and our Neighborhood Services Coordinator Felicia Verdin to solve this issue. Stay tuned for updates.

Best practices:
1. Bike East Bay offers bike theft prevention tips at  https://bikeeastbay.org/theft.
2. Never leave your bike in your back yard, not even for a second. This is where most of the thefts are occurring in our neighborhood. Remember thefts are not just occurring at night, but in broad daylight.
3. In the unfortunate event that your bike is stolen, post a picture and description of your bike immediately on the Santa Fe Neighborhood Message Board Facebook page and on Nextdoor.

There have been a number of bike thefts in our neighborhood. This is frustrating and unacceptable.

I am in communication with our Area 2 Captain – Captain Darren Allison. As of November 9, 2015, Capt. Allison advised me that our Community Resource Officer (CRO) Donald Lane is off due to an injury. Capt. Allison will direct Sgt. Smith, the supervisor, to assign another CRO to look into the property. “The property” refers to a particular address where it is alleged stolen bikes are being housed. Please stay tuned for developments.
